I have recently retired and moved to live and paint in Naxos.
Having built a house here some 10 years ago, I have been unable to use it except for holidays, because of business commitments in the UK. I owned, and successfully ran an architecural and interior design company for many years, in parallel with, and incorporating a manufacturing facility for high quality, bespoke, fitted furniture and architecural joinery.
It has always been my dream to have time to paint in a beautiful and tranquil anvironment, and having travelled to many beautiful locations worldwide, I chose Naxos...Who said dreams never come true!
It has been a wonderful year since my permanent arrival here, especially to see the changing seasons on the island, from the dramatic skies and lunar landscapes of the winter months through to the exquisite colours of spring, with its carpets of blue and yellow.
Exploring the island with its striking splashes of white villages, undulating landscape, majestic mountains (with rather precarious roads!), historical ruins and amazing coastline is an atists dream. With my wife, we have enjoyed the weekend walks organized by the municipality through parts of the island we would never have found, with camera in hand to capture these amazing sights-- the inspirations for many of my paintings.
I paint mainly with water colours and often incorporate pen and ink- mainly land/seascapes of Naxos and the Cyclades and would be happy to capture a holiday memory from your favorite snapshot. Any reasonable commissions undertaken.
A variety of my paintings will be for sale in some quality art/craft shops, restaurants and hotels and I will be displaying my current collection at an exhibition in the Town Hall, Chora from June 22 until July3. I also have a gallery at our home in Agios Panteleimonas, which is a short distance from the airport (see the map) that will be open from May 2008.
